Multiple celebrities are skipping the Met Gala this year, as Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, are serving as honorary chairs of the event.
Bella Hadid, a model who has attended multiple previous galas, liked a video on Instagram calling out celebrities who plan to attend this year’s gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, according to Forbes.
The outlet also reported that actress Taraji P. Henson commented, “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!” on the same video. Henson attended last year’s event.
Meryl Streep, who stars in the newly released film “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” will not attend Monday night’s gathering. But that is not out of the ordinary.
“Meryl has been invited to the Met Gala for many years but has never attended,” a representative for the actor told People.
The representative added that while Streep “appreciates” Vogue and former Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, who has chaired the event since the 1990s, the event “has never quite been her scene.”
Actor Zendaya also will not attend the event, Elle reported Monday. The outlet noted she has recently been on press tours for “The Drama” and Season 3 of “Euphoria.”
The museum announced in February that Bezos and his wife, the lead sponsors of this year’s gala, would serve as its honorary chairs. The event, first held in 1948, benefits the museum’s costume institute and other activities.
On Sunday, activist group Everybody Hates Elon — a reference to Elon Musk — projected the message “Boycott the Bezos Met Gala” on the Amazon founder’s Manhattan penthouse, according to People.
Members of the group have claimed they’ve hidden bottles of fake urine in the museum, according to USA Today. Amazon employees have said that time demands while on shift forced them to urinate in bottles.
In December 2024, Amazon reached a settlement with the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration over federal workplace safety violations. As part of the agreement, the company agreed to pay $145,000.
