Stylist Micaela Erlanger has been working with Meryl Streep for over a decade — their partnership began when the actress was promoting the 2015 musical comedy Ricki and the Flash — but it’s their latest collaboration that is taking Streep to an entirely new sartorial level. As the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 looms, Streep and her co-star Anne Hathaway have been embarking on a global press tour, requiring Erlanger to put together dozens of looks for appearances from Mexico City to Tokyo and beyond. And, each look needs to be dramatic enough to suit Miranda Priestly (and Runway magazine).

“There’s a real sense of play on this tour, but we’re not recreating the past, we’re evolving it,” says Erlanger. “We’re threading in iconic nods [to the film] in a way that feels elevated and unexpected.”

Here, Erlanger shares an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her TDWP2 styling diary, including a favorite look, a custom Dolce & Gabbana. “We wanted something that felt cinematic while still grounded in who Meryl is today: effortless, confident, and entirely in command,” she says.

The stylist also offers a missive to fans ahead of the rest of the tour: “I would absolutely gird your loins. There are a few moments coming that fashion people—and film lovers alike—will instantly recognize.”
