Apple Original Films Secures New Jennifer Lawrence Romantic Comedy
Apple Original Films has successfully acquired the rights to "One Month Mark," a new romantic comedy featuring Jennifer Lawrence, who will both star in and produce the project. The film, based on a spec script by playwright and director Sophie Fleur de Bruijn, centers on a high-concept premise involving two individuals with polar opposite approaches to dating: one who struggles to maintain a relationship beyond a month, and another who cannot seem to go a month without one.
The acquisition follows a highly competitive bidding process, underscoring the continued industry demand for star-driven romantic comedies. Lawrence will produce the film through her Excellent Cadaver banner alongside her partner, Justine Ciarrocchi, and the team at Chernin Entertainment. While a director has yet to be attached, the project marks a significant addition to Apple’s growing slate of original content.
This deal reinforces a strengthening partnership between Apple and Lawrence, as "One Month Mark" becomes her fourth project with the studio. Her previous collaborations include the drama "Causeway," the documentary "Bread & Roses," and the upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed feature "What Happens at Night." For de Bruijn, the sale represents her second collaboration with Apple, signaling the studio's confidence in her ability to deliver the "emotionally grounded" comedies that have become her signature style.
For the broader entertainment landscape, this development highlights the ongoing trend of major streamers investing in high-profile, talent-led genre films to drive subscriber engagement. By pairing a bankable star like Lawrence with a rising comedic voice like de Bruijn, Apple is positioning itself to capture the lucrative rom-com demographic while continuing to build a diverse library of prestige and commercial content.
