Producer Miranda Bailey Expands Into International Indie Cinema
Producer Miranda Bailey, known for her penchant for unconventional and genre-bending projects like *Swiss Army Man*, has officially expanded her portfolio into international cinema. Her production company, Cold Iron Pictures, recently backed *The Boy With the Light-Blue Eyes*, the feature debut of Greek writer-director Thanasis Neofotistos. The film, which premiered at SXSW London, serves as a poignant allegory for exclusion and a queer coming-of-age story, centering on a young man forced to hide his blue eyes due to local superstition.
Bailey’s involvement in the project stems from a long-standing professional admiration for Neofotistos, dating back to when she championed his short film work at the Aspen Film Festival years ago. When her frequent collaborator, producer Lauren Mann, introduced the project, Bailey committed to the film based on her familiarity with the director’s unique creative voice before even reviewing the script. Despite the language barrier on set in Greece, Bailey emphasized that the collaboration was driven by the director’s distinct artistic vision.
This move highlights a growing trend among indie producers to seek out singular, authentic voices across global markets rather than adhering to a rigid geographic strategy. For Bailey, the project is less about a master plan for international expansion and more about a commitment to working with auteurs who possess a recognizable, specific point of view. By bridging the gap between American indie sensibilities and Greek storytelling, Bailey continues to solidify her reputation for backing bold, high-concept narratives that challenge traditional cinematic boundaries.
