Project Hail Mary fans can thank Ryan Gosling's daughter for one now-iconic detail in the film.

In Ryan's latest sci-fi movie, his character is given the extremely difficult task of risking his life to save the world. Project Hail Mary — which is dominating the box office within just one week of release — is an adaptation of Andy Weir's best-selling book. Part of the project's appeal, Ryan told USA Today, is that he and his wife, Eva Mendes, "always want to find films that we can bring our kids to and have that core memory moment, but they're hard to find. I felt like, OK, well, we might just have to make it."

In the interview, Ryan shared that his daughters — Amada is 9 years old, and Esmeralda is 11 — got to see cuts of Project Hail Mary, and weren't shy about giving their Academy Award nominee dad some uncensored feedback.

"They've seen many cuts, and they've given many notes. They're the harshest critics, but they are always right, for the most part, and they've really been so helpful," he said.

One note in particular sparked the inspiration for Ryland Grace (Ryan's character in the film) and his scientist style.

"When I was playing with the character, just trying stuff out, and I threw on some glasses, my daughter went, 'You look smarter with glasses,'" Ryan shared. "And I was like: 'Well, thank you very much. I think I will be wearing these in the film. Thank you for that note.'"

In the film, Ryan is acting alone onscreen for an extended period of time in some intense scenes. His daughters came to the rescue by pretending to be the voice of Rocky, his alien costar.

"Sometimes when I was working and I needed to sort of switch things up or whatever, my kids would come in and I had an earpiece in my ear and they would talk for Rocky, so I could talk to them as Rocky," Ryan shared in an interview with People.

"And there's some moments in the movie where I'm laughing or I'm just so charmed by him, which is like, it's actually my kids talking to me and helping me out."

That warmth definitely plays out onscreen, so moviegoers can thank Amada and Esmeralda for that bit of wholesomeness. It's Grace and Rocky forever in my heart these days.

Since Ryan and Eva are known for keeping their daughters largely out of the spotlight, these candid moments behind the curtain feel extra special.

After Project Hail Mary, Ryan will get ready for a new starry adventure in a galaxy far, far away. The girls will be able to give their dad some liner notes on his role in Star Wars: Starfighter, coming out in 2027.
