FlareFlow, a subsidiary of the COL Group, has announced a strategic partnership with Singapore-based Bomanbridge Media to produce 'Mapogo: The Lion Throne.' This premium documentary series marks a significant shift in the industry, as it is one of the first high-end wildlife productions specifically designed for the vertical-format viewing experience. The series is scheduled for a global release across more than 200 countries in late Q3 2026.

Unveiled at the Vertical Media Summit in Los Angeles, the project chronicles the dramatic history of the Mapogo Lion Coalition in South Africa’s Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Filmed over several years, the documentary explores the rise and eventual decline of the infamous pride, which gained notoriety for its aggressive dominance and the elimination of over 100 rival lions. The coalition, featuring iconic figures such as Mr. T and Makulu, has maintained a cult-like following among wildlife enthusiasts, providing a compelling narrative foundation for the series.

This collaboration highlights the growing trend of adapting traditional long-form documentary storytelling to the vertical mobile-first format. By leveraging the intense, character-driven history of the Mapogo lions, FlareFlow is positioning itself to capture the attention of younger, mobile-native audiences who prioritize immersive, short-form content. The move signals a broader industry pivot toward high-production-value factual entertainment tailored for social media-integrated platforms.
