President Trump said his administration received a new proposal from Iran after he canceled a U.S. delegation’s trip to Islamabad for a second round of peace deal talks.

“They gave us a paper that should have been better. And interestingly, immediately, when I canceled it, within 10 minutes, we got a new paper that was much better,” Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One on Saturday, according to Bloomberg.

The president told reporters that the U.S. has “all the cards” in these negotiations.

“We’ll deal by telephone, and they can call us any time they want,” Trump said.

Special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, were scheduled to travel to Pakistan for this second round of negotiations. Vice President JD Vance led the first round of negotiations.

There was some dispute on Friday between U.S. and Iranian officials over whether the two sides would meet face-to-face during these planned weekend talks.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News on Friday that the delegations would engage in “direct” talks — a notion refuted by a spokesperson for Tehran’s foreign ministry.

“No meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the U.S. Iran’s observations would be conveyed to Pakistan,” Esmaeil Baqaei, said in an X post on Friday afternoon.

Iranian Prime Minister Abbas Araghchi and other Tehran officials met with Pakistani mediators in Islamabad on Saturday morning for indirect talks amid a ceasefire between the two sides.

Araghchi called the Saturday talks “very fruitful” and commended the Pakistani mediators in a post on the social platform X.

He said that the Iranian delegation “shared Iran’s position concerning [a] workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran.”

“Have yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy,” Araghchi added.

The Iranian embassy in South Africa announced that Tehran is prepared to launch attacks against U.S. and Israeli bases in West Asia if provoked.

“Iran has prepared for the ‘largest missile strike in history’ against Israel and U.S. bases in West Asia, to be launched immediately upon detecting any signs of an attack,” the embassy wrote in a Saturday X post.
