King Charles III addressed a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday, expressing “the highest regard and friendship of the British people, to the people of the United States.” His remarks were notably political in spots, calling for help in Ukraine, for the climate and noting the checks and balances built into the U.S. government.
Meanwhile, former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted for a second time by the Department of Justice, a source familiar with the situation told NewsNation, The Hill’s sister network.
President Trump and first lady Melania Trump welcomed the king and Queen Camilla at the White House on Tuesday morning for a tour and meeting before the king’s address to Congress. He and the queen will also attend a state dinner at the White House Tuesday night, all against a backdrop of U.S.-U.K. tension.
Also on Tuesday, funding battle over the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is front and center on Capitol Hill after Saturday’s shooting at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
The third assassination attempt on Trump has completely upended the political calculus amid a looming pay freeze for DHS employees. And it has Republicans pushing for the U.S. to fund the president’s $400 million White House ballroom project.
Both chambers, meanwhile, are trying to pass a renewal of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which expires Thursday.
In Florida, a GOP-led redistricting session kicks off Tuesday. Here’s what to watch as the national redistricting saga draws to a close.
