Ever since I've started watching vertical dramas, I've become addicted to finding more shows and films that have romance clichés like rivals becoming lovers, or fake relationships. I find these very thrilling and exciting to watch on-screen. And while vertical dramas are the best at showing such popular yet cheesy tropes, I was wondering which movie and TV couples are the standard for them. Like if you think of the best 'friends-to-lovers' couple, who would you think of immediately? Since my curiosity was piqued, I sat and collected what, according to me, are the best on-screen couples that fit into these rom-com stereotypes. So without further ado, here are 10 iconic movie and TV couples that are the literal DEFINITION of these romantic tropes:

Enemies-to-Lovers

1.

Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma in Bridgerton. Ever since these two graced our screens with their sizzling chemistry and stolen glances, they have become the epitome of the "enemies-to-lovers" trope. No matter how hard you try, you cannot change my mind on this. The witty banter between the two in the beginning of the series had me blushing non-stop, and that's when I knew that this couple would be so insufferable the moment they got together—and I was CORRECT. No one else loves more passionately than two people who, at first, hated each other.

Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley could play enemies-to-lovers in I Swapped Bodies with My Nemesis, where, as the title says, two rivals swap bodies, and chaos and love ensue. This genre just suits them so well, and with their stolen glances, witty banter and romantic monologues, their drama would be a hit.

Friends-to-Lovers

2.

Jenna Rink and Matt Flamhaff in 13 Going on 30. No other on-screen couple has perfected the 'friends-to-lovers' cliché better than our OG comfort couple, Jenna and Matt. Their friendship never seemed forced, nor did their love for one another, and that's why they are such a lovely pair. From the silly little inside jokes, the iconic "Thriller" dance, and the heartbreaking confession scene—these two really nailed it with their yearning and slow-burn love. No one else can compete with them.

Honorable mentions: When Harry Met Sally..., My Best Friend's Wedding, Love, Rosie, and Just Friends.

Imagine if Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner starred in I Flash-Married My Best Friend?! , where two best friends spend a night together and accidentally get married—it would be a super cute and chaotic rom-com.

Fake Relationship

3.

Lara Jean Song-Covey and Peter Kavinsky in To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Lara Jean and Peter did not only just deliver the cutest high school romance, but also the best 'fake relationship' deal I've ever seen. The fake relationship might have started out to make Peter's ex jealous, but the hand in the back pocket and all those notes he gave Lara Jean—I KNEW it was always going to be more than just that. I loved how innocent and sensitive the two were to each other, always respecting boundaries and actually listening. They were a match made in heaven. This was a top-tier 'fake relationship.'

Watching Lana Condor and Noah Centineo in a fake relationship was so comforting, I can see them playing a couple in Fake it Till You Love Me—which is all about a fake marriage that turns real when they fall in love.

Forbidden Love

4.

Romeo and Juliet in Romeo + Juliet. We all know that Romeo and Juliet's love story is an evergreen classic; one that ends in tragedy. There is no better contender for the 'forbidden romance' than these two lovers, and this 1996 film perfectly captures their turbulent romance. The modernization of this classic story while still using Shakespearean dialogue was a masterclass move by Baz Luhrmann, and it just adds to the drama and tension in the film. There are many, many variations of Romeo and Juliet around the world; however, this one will always hold the number one position for me.
