Blue Fox Entertainment Acquires Former iPic Locations, Rebrands as The Cinemas
Blue Fox Entertainment has officially acquired two high-profile luxury theater locations previously operated by iPic Theaters in Westwood, Los Angeles, and New York City. Following iPic’s bankruptcy filing in March, Blue Fox has moved to revitalize these sites under a new brand identity: The Cinemas. This strategic acquisition allows the company to maintain a physical footprint in two of the most significant entertainment markets in the United States.
A central component of this rebranding is a shift in operational philosophy. The Cinemas will move away from the traditional "dine-in" model that defined the iPic experience. Instead, the company plans to pivot toward premium concessions and elevated food and beverage options. Management stated that this change is intended to minimize the distractions often associated with in-theater service, such as ambient light and staff movement, thereby prioritizing the audience's focus on the film itself.
This move signals a broader trend in the exhibition industry, where operators are re-evaluating the luxury theater model in a post-pandemic landscape. By streamlining the service experience, Blue Fox is betting that cinephiles prefer a refined, distraction-free environment over the labor-intensive, full-service dining model that struggled to remain profitable under the previous ownership. The success of this transition will likely serve as a litmus test for whether premium, boutique cinema experiences can thrive by focusing on the purity of the screening rather than the complexity of the service.
