Modern Family's Ariel Winter Is Roommates With Nolan Gould: Reacts

Ariel Winter was just 11 years old when she was cast as middle child Alex Dunphy on the ABC sitcom Modern Family, which ran from 2009 to 2020.

She has always been open about how close she was with her on-screen family, and admitted that it was pretty difficult to no longer see them every day after the show wrapped when she was 22.

“We really were like a real family,” Ariel previously told People. “It was weird knowing it would just be over, and I wouldn't get to see everybody all the time anymore. It was like: 'Wait, yeah, wait, we're not going to be together on Monday?' So on the one hand, I didn't want it to end, but at the same time I was ready to start something new as an adult.”

And in 2024, she reiterated that the cast still communicates like a “real family” would, telling E!: “You sometimes don't stay in contact that often. I don't talk to my family every single day. Sometimes it's like my extended family. It could be a week; it could be a month. But I do keep in touch with a lot of them quite frequently.”

Through it all, Ariel has remained particularly close with Nolan Gould, who played her younger brother, Luke, on the show. Nolan is just one year younger than her, which means that they grew up in the public eye together.

“He is my brother,” Ariel said of Nolan in the E! interview. “He was my first best friend, which is a really beautiful thing. We met when he was 10, and I was 11, and we've gone through so many stages of life together. And we have stuck through it all, thick and thin.”

And now, the two former child stars are navigating their late-twenties together, with Ariel revealing that she has moved in with Nolan after splitting from her boyfriend, Luke Benward.

For context, Ariel made the decision to relocate to Nashville after Modern Family wrapped, and she has now told People that she is spending more and more time back in California. She began: "It's funny because I spend more time out here now, and I rent a house with Nolan.”

"People ask me about a Modern Family reboot, but Nolan and I are real roommates now," Ariel went on. "So it's like we're having our own little Modern Family reboot, but it's just the two of us living together. So I see him every day."

And she went on to admit that Modern Family viewers would probably enjoy being a fly on the wall in her and Nolan’s home, quipping: “I'm not gonna lie, when we sit there at night, and we watch, like, Temptation Island together, it's pretty hilarious.”

Needless to say, the revelation that Alex and Luke Dunphy are living together has got fans right in the feels, with one writing on a Reddit forum: “It makes me happy that they're still close, this is cute.”

“Why does this make me tear up? I’ve always heard great things of how kind the cast is to each other. It’s nice to read stories like this,” another commented, and somebody else observed: “It's really sweet how close the Dunphy family seems to have stayed post-show.”
