(NewsNation) — Prince William is planning to sell shares of a royal estate to fund infrastructure and environmental projects.
William announced he’s planning to sell 20 percent of the Duchy of Cornwall, an estate established by King Edward III in 1337 as a source of income for the heir to the throne.
The Prince of Wales would raise roughly $670 million from the sale, which will fund housing, environmental and renewable energy projects, according to The Times.
The Duchy of Cornwall is reportedly worth $1.3 billion. William earns around $31 million a year from the estate to cover private expenses for himself and his family.

William, who took over the estate in 2022 when King Charles ascended the throne, would use the proceeds from the sale to build thousands of homes across the U.K. and fund sustainable development initiatives, according to The Times.
“We’re not the traditional landowner… we want to be more than that. There is so much good we can do. I’m trying to make sure I’m prioritising stuff that’s going to make people’s lives, living in those areas, better,” Prince William said, according to the BBC.
