(NewsNation) — Olivia and Liam are still America’s most popular baby names, topping Social Security’s annual list for the seventh straight year.
Newly released rankings for 2025 — based on Social Security card applications at birth — show few changes in the top 10.
On the boys’ side, the top four names held steady: Liam, Noah, Oliver and Theodore.
For girls, Charlotte overtook Emma as runner-up, ending Emma’s six-year streak in the No. 2 spot. Ava also dropped out of the top 10, replaced by Eliana.
Amelia, Sophia, Sofia, Mia, Evelyn and Isabella all remained in the top 10.

While the top of the list is mostly unchanged, names outside the top 10 are gaining popularity.
The boys’ name Kasai — which means “fire” in Japanese and Swahili — jumped 1,108 spots to enter the top 1,000 for the first time, landing at 639. Akari, Eziah, Jasai and Neithan were also among the fastest-rising boys’ names.
Among girls, Klarity led all risers, moving from No. 2,187 on the list in 2024 to 791 in 2025. Rynlee, Ailanny, Naylani and Madisson also surged in the rankings.
Which baby names are becoming less popular?
Aubrie dropped 354 spots and is now outside the top 1,000 at No. 1,353. Cattleya, Jaycee and Zendaya were also significantly less popular than a year earlier.
Karim saw the sharpest decline among boys, followed by Khaza, Khai, Landen and Seven.
