President Trump described the U.S. ceasefire with Iran as being on “life support” in the Oval Office on Monday after he dismissed Tehran’s counteroffer on nuclear talks.
“It’s unbelievably weak,” Trump told reporters when asked by reporters if the ceasefire with Iran remains in place for the time being.
Iranian state media shed light on its negotiating team’s latest demands in talks with the U.S., which Trump roundly rejected on Sunday.
In the Oval Office on Monday, Trump referred to the counteroffer as a “piece of garbage” and said he did not even finish reading it.
Iran demanded war reparations, Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. sanctions ending, along with the return of frozen assets, according to reports.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said decisions on how to move forward with Iran’s nuclear program would be settled when “the time is right.”
The Department of Health and Human Services announced Sunday night that one American on the cruise ship that experienced a hantavirus outbreak has tested positive for the virus, while another is experiencing mild symptoms.
NBC News reported that the 17 Americans who were on the ship had returned to the U.S., with a government plane touching down early Monday morning in Nebraska, where they will be monitored in a quarantine center.

Meanwhile, President Trump is gearing up for his trip to China later this week, as the conflict in Iran threatens to to be a dark cloud.
Trump on Monday will participate in a maternal healthcare event at 10:30 a.m. and host the 2026 NCAA football champion Indiana Hoosiers at 4 p.m.
