Sideral Cinema Acquires Rights to Federico García Lorca Documentary
Sideral Cinema has secured the international sales and Spanish distribution rights for "Lorca: The Broken Voice" ("La voz quebrada"), a new feature documentary directed by Manuel Menchón. The film promises a fresh perspective on the life of the iconic Spanish poet, Federico García Lorca, by focusing on previously unexplored historical chapters and private records.
What distinguishes this project is its access to rare, newly uncovered moving images of Lorca during his time with La Barraca, the famous traveling theater company. By integrating these archival discoveries with private documentation, the documentary aims to provide a more intimate and accurate portrayal of the poet’s experiences, moving beyond the well-trodden narratives surrounding his life and tragic death.
The film is a collaborative effort between Argentina’s K&S Films and Spanish production houses Pantalla Partida Producciones and Imagine! Films, with support from the public broadcaster RTVE. This international partnership highlights the enduring global interest in Lorca’s literary and cultural legacy.
For the film industry, this acquisition signals a continued appetite for high-quality, research-driven documentaries that offer historical revelations. By bringing rare footage to light, "The Broken Voice" not only serves as a significant contribution to Spanish cultural history but also positions itself as a compelling asset for international distributors looking for prestige non-fiction content that bridges the gap between academic research and cinematic storytelling.
