The British monarchy on Tuesday released the official itinerary for King Charles’s and Queen Camilla’s upcoming trip to the U.S.
The royal couple is set to travel to the U.S. at the end of April through early May, and it comes at a particularly tense period between President Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer amid the conflict in Iran.
The six-day trip will begin on April 27 in Washington, D.C., with later stops in New York City and Virginia.
The king will address both chambers of Congress on April 28, making him only the second British monarch to do so after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, gave a speech in 1991.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced the address in a post online earlier this month.
“It is my distinct honor and great privilege to invite His Majesty King Charles III, The King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to address a Joint Meeting of Congress,” Johnson wrote on social platform X.
“Our two nations share one of the most consequential partnerships in history, and together we will mark the historic milestone of America’s 250th year of independence,” he added.
After the address, Trump and first lady Melania Trump will host the royal couple at the White House for a state dinner.
“This momentous occasion will be even more special this year, as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of our Great Country,” the president wrote in a Truth Social post announcing the dinner at the end of March. “I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!”
Trump has clashed repeatedly with Starmer during his second term over his administration’s sweeping tariffs and military operations against Iran.
The president demanded the U.K. government “DRILL, BABY, DRILL” to counteract rising energy prices resulting from the U.S.’s conflict with Iran in a Truth Social post on Tuesday.
“It is absolutely crazy that they don’t …. AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!” Trump added.
Starmer said in an interview last week that he was “fed up” with the economic impacts of “actions of Putin or Trump around the world.”
After Washington, D.C., the royal couple will travel to New York City, where they will meet with the families of 9/11 victims ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attack.
During this portion of the trip, the king will visit a community organization focused on promoting sustainable urban farming practices and meet with business leaders, according to the guidance. The queen will separately attend an event celebrating the 100th birthday of the Winnie the Pooh series.
After New York, the king and queen will travel to a national park in Virginia, where Charles will meet with “members of an indigenous community” and conservationists. Camilla will then visit a farm tied to the horse racing industry to celebrate the sport’s ties in the U.S. and the U.K.
The couple will also attend a “block party” in Virginia in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
After the U.S. trip, the king will travel alone to Bermuda, making him the first UK monarch to visit an overseas British territory.
