The ESPN 30 for 30 documentary "Give Me The Ball!," directed by Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff, has been selected as the opening film for the third annual Croatia International Film Festival (CIFF). The documentary, which chronicles the life and activism of tennis legend Billie Jean King, will hold its international premiere on July 24 in the coastal city of Sibenik. The screening will be accompanied by a special introduction video from King herself.

Since its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the film has garnered significant acclaim for its portrayal of King not just as a sports icon, but as a pivotal cultural figure who championed gender equality and fair pay in professional tennis. By featuring insights from figures like Elton John and Chris Evert, the documentary highlights King’s transformation of personal ambition into a broader mission for social justice, drawing comparisons to the cultural impact of Muhammad Ali.

This selection underscores the growing international reach of the Croatia International Film Festival. Founded by Croatian American producer Ella Mische during the 2023 industry strikes, the festival has rapidly expanded its influence. This year, the event received over 1,200 submissions, marking its most competitive year to date. By securing high-profile projects like "Give Me The Ball!," CIFF continues to establish itself as a significant platform for global storytelling, bridging the gap between Hollywood production and European festival audiences.
