President Trump will attend the G7 summit in France next month amid growing tensions between Trump and leaders of the group’s member countries.
A White House official confirmed the development, which was first reported by Axios, to The Hill early Wednesday
The summit will take place June 15 through 17 at Evian-les-Bains in France in the French Alps.
The international body consists of the U.S., U.K., Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.
The U.S. war in Iran has been a major point of contention between Trump and leaders of the members of the countries, with Trump accusing many of the allies of not doing enough to assist in the conflict or secure the Strait of Hormuz.
The G7 summit would mark Trump’s first face-to-face meeting with many of the leaders since the war in Iran broke out earlier this year.
Trump singled out France and the U.K. in a pair of Truth Social posts in March, calling France “very unhelpful” and telling the U.K. to “get your own jet fuel” while saying the U.S. would not be there to help the country in the future.
The U.K. and France have led their own coalition focused on stabilizing the vital waterway despite facing strong criticism from Trump.
The president has also engaged in a war of words with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has called on the world’s “middle powers” to unite in response to superpowers like the U.S. and China, as well as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni over Trump’s criticism of Pope Leo XIV.
