Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) said during an interview broadcast Sunday that ending foreign wars is “the best thing that we could do” to lower gas prices — comments that come amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict against Iran.
“There’s been some conversation in this state, at least, about possibly waiving the gas tax for a little while. It is one of the higher ones in the country. You say governors can’t do much about the gas price, you could conceivably establish a gas price holiday, no?” CBS News’s Ed O’Keefe asked Moore on “Face the Nation.”
“Yeah, I mean, the best thing that we could do to be able to address gas prices is by stop[ping] fighting foreign wars and stop[ping] watching gas prices jump up over $1,” the governor responded.
Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, an important passageway for the oil industry that has been essentially closed since the start of the conflict against Iran, has complicated President Trump’s exit strategy from the fighting.
According to AAA, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. is currently around $4.11, up from around $3.25 last month.
On Sunday morning, Trump went after Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened to strike Iran’s infrastructure and urged the Iranians to “open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards.”
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
