Retiring Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Monday endorsed San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan (D) in the race to succeed her in California’s 11th Congressional District.

“I know and love this district, I know the Congress and I know Connie,” Pelosi said, with Chan sitting next to her, in a video that their two campaigns shared to Instagram.

“I’m proud to endorse Democrat Connie Chan and ask you to join me in electing her to Congress. Thank you,” Pelosi added.

Pelosi, a two-time speaker of the House, is retiring from politics after representing San Francisco in the lower chamber for nearly four decades.

The only woman to hold the gavel in U.S. history, the 86-year-old is the longest-tenured member of the Golden State’s House delegation by more than three years — with 87-year-old Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who is running for reelection, set to assume that mantle if she wins in November.

Chan, a member of San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors since 2021, entered the race in November by touting her working-class roots and ties to Pelosi.

In her launch video, Chan included a photo of herself with the longtime congresswoman and said, “I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me and fought for the same values.”

Chan’s campaign website also features photos of the candidate with Pelosi and other prominent California politicians, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.).

When it comes to fundraising, Chan’s campaign has lagged behind that of another Democrat in the race: state Sen. Scott Wiener, who started campaigning weeks before Pelosi announced her retirement.

As of the end of March, Chan’s campaign had received more than $457,000 in contributions and had more than $156,000 on hand, according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Wiener’s campaign, on the other hand, received more than $734,000 in contributions during the first quarter of 2026 alone and had more than $2.6 million on hand as of the end of March, according to the FEC.

Saikat Chakrabarti, a former chief of staff to progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), also entered the race in February 2025, months before Pelosi said she would not seek reelection. As of the end of March, Chakrabarti’s campaign had received more than $360,000 in contributions and a loan of more than $4.8 million from the candidate himself, according to the FEC.

The open primary is set for June 2, with the top-two finishers regardless of party advancing to the general election — unless one candidate gets a majority of the vote.
