by Kaysey DavisBuzzFeedBuzzFeed StaffHi, I'm Kaysey and I'm a Contributing Writer for BuzzFeed Canada.

As an avid romance reader, there is simply nothing better than finding out one of my favourite book series is getting turned into a film or television show. After spending months (and sometimes years) rereading my collection of spicy novels, it's exciting to see my most beloved fictional characters and book crushes come to life on screen.

And based on the success of shows like Bridgerton and Heated Rivalry, it's clear we all have an overwhelming appetite for something sweet and spicy.

There are so many screen adaptations in the works and the best part is that a lot of them are based on books by Canadian authors! The best, BEST part is you won't have to wait very long to watch some of them. Here's a little list of the Canadian books getting the small screen treatment:

1.

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid took the world by storm when the show premiered in late 2025. Within a few short months, the show's creator, Jacob Tierney, announced that season two is already in the works. Filming begins this summer and the release date is set for April 2027.

Rachel Reid confirmed that season two would mostly focus on the sixth book in the series, The Long Game. And if you're wondering if any big names will join the cast, Jacob Tierney said it's not likely. In an interview with the LA Times, the director said they're planning to stay true to the show's Canadian roots by highlighting Canadian talent.

The Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy is another hockey romance with a little fake dating trope added in for spice. The first season will follow the first book, The Deal, and is set to release on May 16th of this year on Prime Video.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune became an instant bestseller when it released in 2022. Readers loved the novel for its second-chance romance and nostalgic portraits of Ontario's cottage country. Every Summer After isn't the only book by Carley that's coming to screen. Her second book, Meet Me At The Lake, caught the attention of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who bought the movie rights to the novel (no release date yet). And her third book This Summer Will Be Different is set to be developed by Netflix into a 10-episode series.
