LIVE UPDATES Administration Live updates: Georgia voters pick Greene’s replacement; Mississippi holds primaries by The Hill Staff - 03/10/26 6:25 PM ET by The Hill Staff - 03/10/26 6:25 PM ET Share ✕ LinkedIn LinkedIn Email Email NOW PLAYING A special election in Georgia on Tuesday will narrow the field in the contest to replace former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R).  The contest which is expected to head to an April 7 runoff, will put the power of President Trump’s endorsement to the test and offer insights into voter enthusiasm on both sides of the aisle as the 2026 midterms kick off. Here’s what to know about the race , as Mississippi also hold primary contests Tuesday.  Polls close in Georgia and Mississippi at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. EDT, respectively.  Back in Washington, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday the U.S. Navy has not escorted a tanker or vessel through the Strait of Hormuz, not long after Energy Secretary Chris Wright wrote and deleted a post on social media saying the U.S. had done so. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier that attacks on Iran would ramp up on Tuesday and that the U.S. is “winning” the battle. “Today will be, yet again, our most intense day of strikes inside Iran. The most fighters, the most bombers, the most strikes. Intelligence more refined and better than ever,” Hegseth said at a briefing alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine. President Trump on Monday gave conflicting messages on the progress of Operation Epic Fury, calling it a “short excursion” yet threatening more “fury” to achieve the operation’s goals, as the economic ramifications of the war have come into focus. Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, Trump’s threat to not sign any bills until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship for voting, has placed increasing pressure on Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and his conference.
