Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick Defend Michael Cera In Resurfaced Interview

Back in 2010, Anna Kendrick and Kieran Culkin were just two of MANY celebrities who starred in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Of course, Michael Cera played the titular character in the Edgar Wright action/comedy, an aspiring musician who needed to defeat all seven of his dream girl Ramona Flowers’s exes in order to date her. The film was based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

Over the years, some fans of the comics have debated whether Michael was well-cast as Scott Pilgrim, while others have strongly defended him.

Well, during an interview that appears to have been filmed amid a 2010 press junket for the film, Anna and Kieran — who played Stacey Pilgrim and Wallace Wells, respectively — were awkwardly asked directly about Michael’s physical appearance.

“By rights, he should be really unattractive. What is it that makes him into some sort of sex magnet?” an interviewer asked the pair. In response, the duo looked completely stunned:

Kieran then looked at Anna before questioning, “Unattractive?” And believe it or not, the interviewer doubled down! He said, “I mean, look at him. He’s a nerdy, you know, beanpole of a man.”

Anna then burst out laughing, while Kieran maintained a straight face and said, “I think he’s cute.”

Anna then added, “I like a good beanpole,” while the reporter said, “Everybody’s saying he’s cute,” before asking Anna, “Really?”

The clip has received a ton of reactions after being shared to X and Instagram last week, with one user writing, “this is fucking me up so bad why would the interviewer say this omg.” “the way their faces both dropped 💀 they were taken aback,” someone wrote, while another person echoed, “I love the sheer baffled look on Kieran's face. ‘…unattractive..?’”

Meanwhile, fans praised both Kieran and Anna for their responses. “Kieran 🤍🤍🤍 never change,” one Instagram comment read, while someone on X said, “the way Kieran muttered ‘…unattractive…’ like he was actually bewildered by someone calling Michael Cera that 😭 i love him.”
