Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) has left the ICU after he was hospitalized over the weekend, according to a spokesperson.
In a statement to The Hill, Giuliani spokesperson Ted Goodman said that the former New York City mayor was “out of the ICU and will spend some time recovering before leaving the hospital.”
“The mayor and his family appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers sent his way,” Goodman added in a statement. “Mayor Giuliani—the man who took down the Mafia, saved New York City, and ran toward the towers on September 11—is the same fighter he has always been, and he is winning this fight.”
Goodman said earlier this week that Giuliani was recovering from pneumonia after being hospitalized over the weekend. The spokesperson also said Giuliani’s fight against pneumonia got worse due to a restrictive airway disease he developed amid his response to the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on New York City.
“The power of prayer is working. The mayor feels it. We feel it. Please keep them coming for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani,” Goodman said in his Wednesday statement.
When the twin towers were struck by planes in an attack set up by al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, Giuliani was NYC’s mayor. He “ran toward the towers to help those in need, which later led to a diagnosis of restrictive airway disease,” Goodman said on the social platform X.
“This condition adds complications to any respiratory illness, and the virus quickly overwhelmed his body, requiring mechanical ventilation to maintain adequate oxygen and stabilize his condition,” Goodman wrote.
