IDW Publishing is set to expand the universe of its breakout hit, 'Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees,' with a new Halloween-themed anthology arriving on October 7. Creator Patrick Horvath has recruited a high-profile team of industry talent, including James Tynion IV, Tony Fleecs, and Che Grayson, to contribute stories to the franchise. The project marks a significant shift for the series, moving from a solo-authored narrative to a collaborative anthology format that explores the dark folklore surrounding the series’ protagonist, Samantha Strong.

The original series, which blends a 'Dexter' meets 'Richard Scarry' aesthetic, has become a massive success for IDW, selling over 400,000 copies and establishing itself as the publisher's top-selling original title. The upcoming anthology is set in the aftermath of the second volume, 'Rite of Spring,' focusing on the growing legend and rumors surrounding the serial-killing bear in the town of Woodbrook. By utilizing a campfire-story framing device, the anthology allows various creators to experiment with the series' signature tonal balance of cozy visuals and unsettling horror.

This expansion highlights the growing trend of indie publishers leveraging successful creator-owned properties into broader, multi-author franchises. For IDW, the move is a strategic effort to maintain momentum for a flagship title while providing a platform for established creators to experiment within a proven, high-concept world. As Horvath continues work on the third volume of the main series, this anthology serves as both a bridge for fans and a testament to the series' unique ability to blend contrasting genres effectively.
