Boy Meets World Fans On What Cast Are Really Like

It’s fair to say that the cast of Boy Meets World has received renewed attention in recent years, thanks to the launch of Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle’s podcast, Pod Meets World, back in 2022.

The trio were among the original cast of the hit ABC sitcom, which aired between 1993 and 2000. Ben Savage played the titular “boy,” Cory Matthews, and Danielle played his love interest, Topanga Lawrence, Rider his best friend, Shawn Hunter, and Will his big brother, Eric Matthews.

Recently, a Redditor asked members of the Boy Meets World forum if anybody had ever met a member of the cast over the years — and the responses were seriously interesting. Here are some of the best anecdotes:

"I met and hung out with Ben briefly in the fall of 2004. Forgive me for not remembering every detail; I was a sophomore college student drinking a ton. Lol. Ben had just graduated Stanford in the spring of '04 and was in the Boston area (where I was in school) for some internship of some sort in a political office. I met him through a mutual friend. We partied. He was extremely reserved but very, very, polite and nice. He didn't really want to talk about BMW. I was told ahead of time to try not to bring it up by my college friend, but Ben was super cool, and he even helped me with a paper I was writing."

"We emailed a few times after I met him, and he helped me with the paper. Other than that, I can just say he was EXTREMELY quiet and private for a 'celebrity.' He didn't want anyone to acknowledge him for his show; he just wanted to be like us, like everybody else." — Flashy-Mountain8779

"I met Rider when I was in middle school. I actually had dinner with him and played cards with him using napkins as cards at a restaurant. He was very friendly." — Lil_E91

"In 2006, I was a volunteer soccer ref for my neighbor's 5-year-old. Rusty [William Russ, who played Cory's dad Alan Matthews] was in the same training. I was absolutely starstruck. A couple of months later, I'm tying my shoe after wrapping up reffing a game, and a shadow comes over me. It's the man himself, and he, very nicely — if sheepishly — asks which team gets the ball after a goal is scored lol. We share a laugh, and he disappears into the winter sunlight." — PMMePaulRuddsSmile

"I've met Danielle, Rider, and Will at cons, and all were very nice and seemed genuinely interested in talking with their fans. But the encounter with Will is one I'll never forget. Someone at his panel asked about what books he was currently reading, and he mentioned an author I've personally known and worked with for years. So afterwards, I told him that and shared a few fun stories about working with that author. And it was like the tables flipped, and Will was the one fanboying me because I knew one of his favorite authors. It was such a fun conversation with us mutually nerding out over a lesser-known book series." — Aggravating-Sock6502

"I once met Betsy Randle [who played Cory's mom, Amy Matthews] at a birthday party when I was a child. I’m sure I was annoying, but I remember her being extremely kind and answering all of my questions." — East-Disastrous

"Danielle in 1998, backstage at an NSYNC concert. I was in college and worked at the college arena that NSYNC and a very new Britney [Spears] toured in. Danielle was back there hanging out with Lance [Bass], she was the only one of any of them I recognized. She was very friendly, took a pic with one of my older coworkers so he could show his daughter." — fakeprofile111

"Met Will Friedle last year at a con. Super nice guy! When we took our selfie, he asked if it was OK to put his arm around me, which I honestly respected the hell out of." — Quick_Technology_866

"I met Ben Savage at a taping of Girl Meets World. When I told him how far I had traveled to be there, he was so nice to me and even climbed up the barricade to take a picture with me. It was a super positive experience. I recently met Danielle, Rider, and Will at a Pod Meets World event. They were also extremely nice. Rider seemed very down-to-earth and had a quick conversation with my husband. They were all very nice and didn’t come off as fake-nice." — Buri233
