Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) on Sunday called on President Trump to release government files on aliens and unidentified anomalous phenomena, often known as UFOs.
Speaking on Fox News “The Big Weekend Show,” Burchett urged Trump to “peel back the layers of that onion, let America decide if we can handle it. I think we can handle it.”
Burchett also said he’s “been briefed on some things” that he called “pretty wild.”
“It’s not about little green men, it’s not about dadgum flying saucers,” Burchett said. “It’s about what are we spending tens of millions of your dollars on when some alphabet agency tells me they don’t exist and then again, another department within that department tells me they do exist.”
He added: “I think America needs to know that stuff, and we need to know what the heck we’re spending the money on to study.”
Burchett has spoken openly about his obsession with UAP and aliens, previously suggesting that the U.S. government may have purposefully hidden information on such things.
The Tennessee Republican also has led a series of UAP hearings since 2023. During the first such explosive hearing, David Grusch, a former intelligence official, testified to lawmakers that the U.S. had operated a “multi-decade” program to collect crashed extraterrestrial spacecraft and attempt to reverse-engineer them, which the U.S. government has denied.
Earlier this month, in an appearance on Newsmax, Burchett said the American public would be “up at night” if “the things that I’ve seen” were released.
“I’ve been briefed by just about every alphabet agency there is, and I’ll just tell you this, if they would release the things that I’ve seen, you would stay up at — you’d be up at night worrying about or — thinking about this stuff,” Burchett told Newsmax host Rob Finnerty.
UFO and alien enthusiasts have been buoyed as of late by Trump’s February announcement that he would order top administration officials to identify and release government files related to such topics.
“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post in February.
