Tamil Blockbuster 'Karuppu' Heads to Prime Video Following Record Run
Amazon Prime Video has announced a June 12 global streaming premiere for the Tamil fantasy-action blockbuster 'Karuppu.' Directed by RJ Balaji and starring Suriya, the film has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil release of 2026, earning an estimated ₹300 crore ($35 million) since its mid-May theatrical debut. The film will be available in its original Tamil language alongside Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada dubs, as well as a Telugu version titled 'Veerabhadrudu,' across more than 200 countries.
'Karuppu' represents a significant career milestone for Suriya, marking his most successful box-office performance to date. The film’s narrative, which blends mythological elements with a courtroom drama centered on systemic corruption, has resonated deeply with audiences. By securing this title, Prime Video continues its strategic partnership with the actor, building on the success of previous collaborations like 'Jai Bhim' and 'Soorarai Pottru.'
The timing of this digital release is highly strategic for Amazon. By scheduling the premiere just weeks after its theatrical run, the platform aims to leverage the film's momentum ahead of its annual Prime Day sales event in India this July. This move underscores the growing importance of high-budget regional Indian cinema in global streaming catalogs, as platforms increasingly rely on massive, culturally rooted hits to drive subscriber engagement and retention in competitive markets.
