(NewsNation) — The Pentagon has released a third batch of UFO files as part of an ongoing push for more transparency on the subject.
The latest batch of files includes videos showing artistic recreations of sightings of unexplained orbs. The witnesses in the sightings are described as “highly credible” and include federal law enforcement agents.
There has been increased interest in the subject of UFOs, with a majority of Americans saying they believe there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.
The road to disclosure has been long, and NewsNation’s Ross Coulthart will examine the path, from ancient sightings to Hollywood fascination, June 13 at 8 p.m. ET/7C.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers has been leading the push for transparency, accusing those in government of stonewalling efforts to access certain information.
This week, they called on the White House to offer immunity for UFO whistleblowers to allow them to speak freely on the subject.
During that press conference, whistleblower David Grusch, who shared his story on NewsNation, said there are people in government who are aware of multiple types of extraterrestrial life.
Lawmakers indicated they were going to specifically focus on securing the release of files related to nonhuman intelligent life.
Members of Congress and whistleblowers have accused government agencies of using federal contractors to hide evidence of extraterrestrial life and technology so that it is shielded from Congressional oversight.
One batch of files specifically being sought is related to the 1996 Varginha incident in Brazil, where witnesses reported a UFO crash and encounters with alien beings. Those beings were allegedly transported in secret by U.S. forces to an unknown location.
The Varginha files are not included in this file drop, nor does it appear any of the released files discuss possible U.S. possession of biological remains or UFO technology.
