President Trump on Tuesday said he hoped to end the conflict with Iran “very quickly” while gathered with a bipartisan group of lawmakers at the White House for the annual congressional picnic.

The president told the crowd of Congress members and their families, “We’re going to end that war very quickly. They want to make a deal so badly, they’re tired of – this should have happened for 47 years.”

He added, “Somebody should have done something about it. And it’s going to happen, and it’s going to happen fast. And you’re going to see oil prices plummet.”

The Trump administration has been seeking an end to the war for weeks after negotiations went awry and conflict in the Gulf persists.

Still, Trump said, “I think we’re going to be finished with that very quickly, and they won’t have a nuclear weapon,” of the Iran war.

“And hopefully, we’re going to get it done in a very nice manner,” the president added.

His comments came hours after the Senate advanced a war powers resolution that would force Trump to withdraw U.S. armed forces deployed against Iran.

Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy (La.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted with Democrats to approve the measure.

The vote marked the eighth time since the start of the war that the Senate had voted on a motion to advance a resolution ordering Trump to cease hostilities against Iran, but it marked the first time that such a motion had advanced.

It also marked the second time this year a group of Republican senators crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats to discharge a war powers resolution from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Paul was present at Tuesday’s White House Congressional picnic alongside his colleague Sens. John Curtis (R-Utah) and James Lankford (R-Okla.), in addition to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Reps. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) among others.
