Overnight, the president threatened to strike Iran “with a force that has never been seen before” if Tehran retaliates “very hard” against the U.S. Here’s what you need to know. The U.S. military announced Sunday morning that three servicemembers were killed and another five were seriously injured amid the action in Iran. Trump, in a new address later Sunday, said there will “likely be more” servicemembers’ deaths in the conflict. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragachi on Sunday argued that Tehran is simply defending itself after the U.S. and Israel first launched deadly joint strikes Saturday. “Nobody can tell us that, ‘You don’t have any right to defend yourselves,'” Aragachi told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week.” “We are defending ourselves, whatever it takes, and we see no limit for ourselves to defend our people, to protect our people.” Trump announced late Saturday that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed , after multiple outlets reported that the death of Iran’s decades-long leader was caused by the strikes. On Capitol Hill, questions are swirling around Democrats’ push for a war powers vote seeking to limit Trump’s use of force in the Middle Eastern country.
