President Trump arrived at his Doral golf resort on Sunday, as the PGA Tour returned to the venue for the first time since 2016.
The president was caught on camera in a spectator suite during the Golf Channel broadcast of the final round of the Cadillac Championship. He was joined by his son, Eric Trump, and Steve Witkoff, his foreign affairs envoy.
The broadcast showed Trump watching the action on the 18th hole, as Cameron Young won his second event of the season by six strokes over Scottie Scheffler. CBS announcer Trevor Immelman also noted that the president dined with players on Saturday night.
When Young rolled in his final putt, Trump stood up and clapped, pointed at the champion and flashed a thumbs up.
Margo Martin, a special assistant to the president, also posted a video to the social platform X of Trump pumping his fist and waving to a large crowd of people, some of whom were chatting, “USA.”
The tournament marked the first time the PGA Tour has held an event at a Trump-owned course since 2016, the most recent year that the Doral tournament was contested.
Trump’s courses have also hosted multiple tournaments on the LIV Golf circuit. His course outside of Washington, D.C., is set to host LIV Golf Virginia next week — after the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced this week that it would not fund the league after the current season.
Just after Young rolled in his final putt, the president posted a lengthy message on the Strait of Hormuz to his Truth Social platform.
Trump wrote, “Countries from all over the World, almost all of which are not involved in the Middle Eastern dispute going on so visibly, and violently, for all to see, have asked the United States if we could help free up their Ships, which are locked up in the Strait of Hormuz, on something which they have absolutely nothing to do with — They are merely neutral and innocent bystanders!”
“For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business,” he continued.
This endeavor, which Trump dubbed “Project Freedom,” will start on Monday morning “Middle East time,” according to the president.
In response to the initial wave of U.S. and Israeli strikes on Feb. 28, the Iranian military restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, causing oil prices to spike.
That prompted Trump to order a naval blockade of ships going to and from Iranian ports last month.
Trump wrote Sunday that the U.S. facilitating ship movement in the waterway “is merely meant to free up people, companies, and Countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong” and “would go a long way in showing Goodwill” on behalf of those fighting the war.
“If, in any way, this Humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully,” the president added.
Trump is expected to depart Florida later in the evening and will arrive back at the White House Sunday night.
