Stars have begun arriving at the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to attend Monday’s Met Gala. This year’s event is co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour, with Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz serving as committee co-chairs. The theme for this year is “Costume Art,” and the dress code, according to Vogue, is “Fashion Is Art.”
However, some celebrities will be skipping this year’s fundraiser, as Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, are serving as honorary chairs.
The museum announced in February that Bezos and his wife, the lead sponsors of this year’s gala, would serve as its honorary chairs. The event, first held in 1948, benefits the museum’s costume institute and other activities.
Also on Monday, Iran opened fire on U.S. warships, and the U.S. military retaliated, destroying six Iranian small boats, according to U.S. Central Command leader Adm. Brad Cooper.
The action followed increased tension as Iran cautioned it would not allow any movement through the Strait of Hormuz, hours after President Trump said Sunday the U.S. would assist in freeing ships trapped in the waterway since the war between the nations began.
Later Monday, the United Arab Emirates reported missile and drone launches over its airspace, the first attacks from Tehran since the U.S.-Iran ceasefire went into effect last month.
In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed into law the new set of congressional lines that could net his party up to four House seats in November. It comes as the redistricting fight has blown wide open with the Supreme Court’s ruling last week on the Voting Rights Act.
In Alabama, state lawmakers will gather for a special session to consider mid-decade congressional redistricting after the Supreme Court weakened a key provision of the Voting Rights Act.
Trump will attend a small business summit Monday afternoon, amid other meetings.
