Buckhout defeated four other GOP candidates: Asa Buck, Robert Hanig, Eric Rouse and Ashley-Nicole Russell. She will face incumbent Rep. Don Davis (D-N.C.) in November’s general election, a rematch of their 2024 race , which Davis won by less than 2 percentage points.  A retired Army colonel with 26 years of service, Buckhout served as acting assistant secretary of defense for cyber policy for less than six months last year. After retiring from the military in 2010, she founded a consulting group specializing in electronic warfare and cyberspace operations. Earlier Tuesday, Buckhout touted herself as an “America First conservative and a proven leader,” aligning herself with President Trump.  Davis, a moderate Democrat and retired Air Force captain, is seeking a third term in office. His district was redrawn by Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly in the fall, as conservative lawmakers in the Tar Heel State joined the nationwide redistricting fight that began in Texas last summer.  Under the new map , the 1st district includes Beaufort, Carven, Carteret, Pamlico, Hyde and Dare counties. Those six counties were previously part of the 3rd District, represented by Rep. Greg Murphy (R). Four counties previously part of the 1st District — Wilson, Wayne, Greene and Lenoir — are now part of the 3rd District. House Republicans currently hold a 10-4 edge in North Carolina.
