Media startup Run-A-Muck, co-founded by former Condé Nast executive Pamela Drucker Mann, is expanding its Substack publication, Drafting, to include original short stories. This strategic pivot aims to transform the platform into a creative incubator, where successful narratives serve as the foundation for future film, television, and podcast adaptations. By prioritizing story-first development over medium-specific constraints, the company intends to build a versatile pipeline of intellectual property.

The initiative has already attracted notable talent, including Brittani Nichols of 'Abbott Elementary' and Cody Behan, whose work is already slated for Netflix adaptation. While the company views these stories as a potential source for multimedia projects, leadership emphasizes that the platform will also serve as a home for standalone literary works. This dual-track approach allows Run-A-Muck to cultivate a loyal audience while simultaneously scouting for high-potential stories that resonate with its demographic of over 50,000 monthly readers.

This expansion is backed by a recent $10 million seed funding round, bringing the company’s total valuation to $80 million. With significant investment from Atreides Management and a robust advertising roster featuring brands like Hermès and Moncler, Run-A-Muck is positioning itself to bridge the gap between digital publishing and Hollywood development. By launching with high-profile content—such as a story tied to 'The L Word' by co-founder Ilene Chaiken—the company is signaling a sophisticated, brand-conscious entry into the competitive landscape of IP acquisition and content creation.
