Mark Amodei’s (R) seat in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District.  “Amy and I will always call Nevada home. But at this moment, I have a solemn duty to remain in Washington and continue serving our Veterans as Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs,” Brown  said in a post on the social media platform X,  referring to his role at the Department of Veterans Affairs.   “President Trump entrusted me with this sacred responsibility, and the mission before us is not yet complete,” he added. “My mission remains on supporting our nation’s heroes and their families.”  Brown ran for Nevada Senate in 2022 and 2024, leaning both times on his experience serving in Afghanistan, where suffered third degree burns from a detonated bomb. He lost the Republican primary in 2022 to former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt (R), who lost to Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) that November.  Brown won the GOP primary to run against Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) in 2024 but later lost by about 2 percentage points in the general election.  Amodei  announced last month  he would not seek reelection in the northern Nevada seat, saying it was time to “pass the torch.” President Trump won the district by 14 points in 2024, offering a rare congressional vacancy for Republicans.  Add as preferred source on Google Tags Adam Laxalt Catherine Cortez Masto Donald Trump Jacky Rosen Mark Amodei Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media Inc.
