Administration Harris opposed to ‘regime change’ war in Iran by Ryan Mancini - 02/28/26 3:27 PM ET by Ryan Mancini - 02/28/26 3:27 PM ET Share ✕ LinkedIn LinkedIn Email Email NOW PLAYING Former Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday said she is against “ regime change ” in Iran and accused President Trump of “dragging the United States into a war the American people don’t want.” “Let me be clear,” Harris wrote in a statement shared on the social platform X. “I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice.” Harris called the U.S.-led strikes on Iran “a dangerous and unnecessary gamble” and accused her 2024 presidential opponent of lying on the campaign trail when he “promised to end wars rather than start them.” “Then last year, he said, ‘we obliterated’ Iran’s nuclear program. That, too, was a lie,” the former vice president said. Harris said she and former second gentleman Doug Emhoff will “be praying for all of our brave servicemen and women” and said they “deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day.” Harris also called the strikes “unwise, unjustified and not supported by the American people,” noting that Trump did not receive congressional approval to attack Iran. “There is no equivocation in our opposition to Donald Trump’s war of choice, and Congress must use all available power to prevent him from further committing us to this conflict,” she said. Harris, while campaigning for president in October 2024, called Iran America’s “greatest adversary” in an interview with “ 60 Minutes .” She accused the Middle Eastern country of having “American blood on their hands” and avoided “hypotheticals” when asked if she would take military action on Iran if they were building a nuclear weapon. The U.S. and Israel began the large-scale operation at 1:15 a.m. ET, targeting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command and control facilities, ballistic missile and drone launch sites, military airfields and Iranian air defense systems. The joint mission killed over 200 people in Iran and left almost 750 injured, Iran’s Red Crescent said to Iranian state TV, adding that the strikes hit 24 out of the 31 provinces. U.S. Central Command (Centcom) said it was looking into reports that strikes hit a girls’ school in southern Iran, which Iranian officials said killed more than 80 students. The Israeli Air Force conducted the largest military flyover in the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) history, with over 200 jets striking Iran’s missile sites and the IRGC’s air defense systems in western and central Iran, the IDF said . The IDF added that it hit over 500 targets, including Iranian missile launchers and aerial defense systems. The strikes come after weeks of worsening tensions and negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program left at a standstill. Trump and other administration officials said they wanted to see a diplomatic solution, but the president warned that he was considering a limited strike and said any conflict would not be a long one.
