Meghan McCain Says Alyssa Farah Griffin Is A Joke
by Larry FitzmauriceBuzzFeedBuzzFeed StaffI'm a writer and editor who lives in Brooklyn, New York, and I've written for a variety of publications across the last 20 years, including The New York Times, The Guardian, GQ, New York Magazine, Pitchfork, The Fader—the list goes on.
You probably remember that Meghan McCain occupied the token "conservative commentator" slot on The View from 2017 to 2021.

When Meghan left, she was replaced by Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was the former press secretary for the Department of Defense under Trump. Seems innocuous enough, right?

Wrong. On a recent episode of Meghan's Citizen McCain podcast, the conservative commentator laid into Alyssa in a way she's never done before — and she made it very clear that she's not happy with who the show chose to replace her.

“When I left The View, the executive producer said, ‘I want you to help me help pick your [successor],'” Meghan said, explaining that she gave “a list of women I thought would be great," including podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey.

“You need someone who’s a real one,” Meghan added, stating that she didn't want to be replaced by “fake people who once voted for President Bush in the early 2000s and now hate everything Republicans” currently stand for.

Then, Meghan went in for the jugular when it came to Alyssa being hired. “I’m gonna say something that’s a little nasty,” she said. “The person they replaced me with is a joke. She is in no way representative of conservative women."

"It’s been a wildly disappointing experience for me to see what legacy I helped do during the four years there while my dad battled brain cancer and I had not one, but two miscarriages while I worked there," Meghan added, before mentioning that Alyssa voted for Kamala Harris in 2024. “How is that representing conservatives?” she asked rhetorically.

It wasn't all mud-slinging though! Meghan did have some words of praise for another conservative-leaning alum of The View: Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who filled in for Alyssa earlier this year while she was out on maternity leave. “She was great, and she was really strong and she fought for a lot of the things that I fight for,” Meghan said.
