President Trump is set to attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday evening for the first time while in the Oval Office.
Trump announced in March that he would accept the invitation to the dinner “in honor of our Nation’s 250th Birthday” after boycotting the event during his first administration and last year.
He added, in the post on Truth Social, that “it will be my Honor to accept their invitation, and work to make it the GREATEST, HOTTEST, and MOST SPECTACULAR DINNER, OF ANY KIND, EVER!”
First lady Melania Trump and other members of the president’s Cabinet are also expected to attend the dinner.
It is customary for a president to give remarks at the event, which raises money for journalism scholarships given out by the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA). This year’s entertainer is not a comedian, but mentalist and Emmy winner Oz Pearlman.
