Lara Trump, President Trump’s daughter-in-law, said Monday that the president has “great people” working alongside him to write jokes ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
“It’s a combo, he, he does a — yeah, he’s got some great people who he’s, I think, tapping to help him with this. But, he comes up with a lot of good material, as you see on Truth Social, as you see, like, live in the flesh, himself,” the president’s daughter-in-law told Meghan McCain on her livestreamed show “Citizen McCain.”
Lara Trump said President Trump plans to “have a good time” at the dinner.
“I love that he’s going. I think it’s great, and — yeah, I think everyone should get ready, ’cause he’s going to do some roasting, and we know he doesn’t hold anything back,” she said.
Early last month, Trump said he would go to this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, ending a boycott of the annual gala.
“In honor of our Nation’s 250th Birthday, and the fact that these “Correspondents’ now admit that I am truly one of the Greatest Presidents in the History of our Country, the G.O.A.T., according to many, it will be my Honor to accept their invitation, and work to make it the GREATEST, HOTTEST, and MOST SPECTACULAR DINNER, OF ANY KIND, EVER!” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Because the Press was extraordinarily bad to me, FAKE NEWS ALL, right from the beginning of my First Term, I boycotted the event, and never went as Honoree. However, I look forward to being with everyone this year. Hopefully, it will be something very Special,” he continued.
Lara Trump, who went in 2024, said she would be watching this year’s event from the “comfort of my own home.”
In 2011, Trump called jokes made about him at that year’s Correspondents’ Association dinner “inappropriate in certain respects.”
The then-real estate mogul responded to former President Obama and comedian Seth Meyers’s jokes aimed at him the Sunday morning after the dinner a decade-and-a-half ago by saying he “didn’t know that I’d be virtually the sole focus.”
