Rep. Clay Fuller (R-Ga.) was sworn into office on Tuesday after winning a special election to replace former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Fuller will serve out the remaining months of Greene’s term — helping Republicans maintain their razor-thin majority in the House and bolster support for President Trump’s agenda in Congress.
“You were sent a warrior to Congress, and I can’t wait to fight for you each and every day,” the newly elected Georgia representative said during the ceremony.
“To my Democratic colleagues. I look forward to working with each and every one of you, and so thank you, Mr. Speaker, I’m ready to get to work here. God bless you all,” he added.
Fuller signaled early in his remarks a willingness to back bipartisan legislative efforts while serving in the lower chamber.
Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.) also said he hopes to work “across the aisle” with Fuller for the sake of rural Georgia.
Bishop said at the swearing in that he expects he and Fuller can find a “way to work together across the aisle, even as we have our diverse interests, particularly when subjects impact the people of the great state of Georgia, wherever they might live, to make our state continue to be the best state in America to do business.”
President Trump endorsed Fuller to replace Greene, who has become a vocal critic of the president during his second term.
The new Georgia representative previously served in the JAG Corps and as the district attorney for Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit, but resigned from that position to run for Greene’s House seat.
Before his congressional campaign, Fuller was a White House fellow during the first Trump administration.
