Democrat Rep. Frank Mrvan (Ind.) is set to face off this fall against Republican Porter County Commissioner Barb Regnitz in what’s expected to be one of the few competitive House races in Indiana this cycle, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Mrvan first won his northwestern Indiana seat in the 2020 election and has held on despite competitive fights in the last two cycles — but his winning streak could be in jeopardy this November in a district that’s been trending toward Republicans.
President Trump lost the district to former President Biden by roughly 8 percentage points in the 2020 presidential election, but narrowed that gap to less than a point against former Vice President Harris in 2024, according to data analyzed by Cook Political Report.
Mrvan is still expected to have the advantage this fall, as Cook Political Report rates the race as “likely Democratic.” But the other House races in the state are considered either solidly blue or solidly red, putting focus on the potentially competitive race.
Mrvan defeated one longshot rival in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, while Regnitz won out as expected over two other Republicans.
