(NEXSTAR) — As the war in Iran continues, prices at the pump largely refuse to come down.

President Trump said he hopes the price of oil and gas will fall in the coming months, telling Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo in an interview on “Sunday Morning Futures” that he thinks the conflict against Iran “won’t be that much longer.”

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline sits at $4.125 as of Sunday, according to AAA. That’s up slightly from the $4.11 average reported a week ago. Diesel, meanwhile, sits at $5.663 a gallon, up from $5.61 last week.

AAA data shows 15 states have seen gas prices drop since April 5, though some improvements may be more noticeable than others.

With a statewide average of $4.034 a gallon, it’s Florida that has seen prices drop the most since last weekend, falling roughly 17 cents from $4.205. The Sunshine State is the only state to see pump prices fall by more than 10 cents a gallon since Easter Sunday.

In Colorado, the statewide average has fallen roughly 6 cents to $3.767 a gallon.

Other states to see prices fall over the last week include New Jersey, Virginia, Arizona, California, North Carolina, Nevada, Wisconsin, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, West Virginia, Georgia, and

Rhode Island. With the exception of New Jersey, the price drops were less than five cents.

The interactive map below shows how the average price of regular gasoline has changed, week over week.

Thirteen states, primarily in the Midwest, saw statewide gas averages jump by at least 10 cents a gallon.

Hawaii remains the only state to see gas prices reach and surpass levels last seen in 2022. On Saturday, the statewide average hit $5.649, a new record.

What about diesel prices?

Hawaii is one of nine states that have seen diesel prices break 2022 records this month. The state hit a new record on Sunday with an average price of $7.099 a gallon as of Sunday.

The other states — California, Washington, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, North Carolina, Arizona — have seen diesel prices improve since setting records last month. Florida was the first state to record a historically high statewide average for diesel when prices peaked at $5.82 a gallon on April 2.

Pump prices in Virginia, Louisiana, Maryland, and Mississippi are within 10 cents of record costs last seen in 2022.

What about state gas taxes?

Georgia last month suspended its gas tax for 60 days, while Indiana’s gas tax was recently suspended for 30 days. The state gas tax will be lowered in Utah for several months, but not until July 1, under a bill signed by the governor earlier this year.

Some lawmakers in West Virginia last week called for a special session to cut the state’s gas tax.

Republican lawmakers in Maryland were hoping for a 30-day gas tax holiday, but legislation was never introduced, according to local reporting. Florida, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina lawmakers have also pushed for a gas tax suspension.

Lawmakers in California, New York, and Oregon have also pushed for local gas taxes to be suspended, but their respective governors have pushed back, blaming the Trump administration for high pump prices. Meanwhile, Connecticut‘s governor has suggested a one-month gas tax holiday, drawing mixed reactions from the top leaders in his party.

Gas taxes generally pay for building, expanding and repairing roads and bridges. Unless funds are shifted from elsewhere, suspending a gas tax means less money for transportation projects, including some that may already have been budgeted.

In South Carolina, the state gas tax provides about $800 million yearly, helping to fund nearly $7 billion of projects ranging from safety improvements on two-lane roads to a massive overhaul of interstate interchanges. Republican Gov. Henry McMaster worries that major projects would take longer and cost more if tax revenue were cut. He dismissed the suspension of gas taxes as a “sort of knee-jerk reaction.”

“We’d like them all to be lower and lower,” McMaster said, “but that’s one we should not take any money out of.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
