The suspected gunman involved in Saturday’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner is slated to appear in court Monday. Early indications are that likely he was targeting President Trump and other top officials.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt added a press briefing to the schedule; she’ll appear in the briefing room at 1 p.m.
On Capitol Hill, meanwhile, Senate Republicans say they’re losing confidence in Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s leadership, with some saying they’d like to see him “move on.”
Both the Senate and House are in session — here’s what to expect this week.
The Supreme Court will hear arguments Monday in a case with potentially major implications for how law enforcement investigates crimes in the digital age. Also on the docket are arguments in a case that could curtail antipesticide lawsuits — an issue that pits the Make America Healthy Again movement against the Trump administration.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla will also be making their way to the U.S. on Monday for a six-day visit. They’ll try to smooth over relations with the U.K., but the controversies surrounding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, however, threaten to cast a shadow over the visit.
Trump on Monday will attend a series of meetings before greeting the British royals alongside first lady Melania Trump at the White House.
