Devon Hammonds Appointed Head of Nonfiction at Sony Pictures Television
Sony Pictures Television has promoted Devon Hammonds to lead its nonfiction division, filling a leadership void created by the departures of former unscripted heads Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman earlier this year. Hammonds, who previously served as executive vice president of business development and strategy, will now oversee the studio's expansive portfolio of documentary, reality, and talk show programming. This appointment follows a broader organizational restructuring that placed the nonfiction unit under the direct supervision of Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope.
Hammonds brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed operations for the division and played a key role in the integration of Industrial Media, which Sony acquired in 2022. Her new mandate includes managing high-profile production entities such as Sharp Entertainment, 19 Entertainment, and B17, as well as documentary-focused shingles like This Machine and Maxine Productions. Her oversight also extends to popular formats including 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen' and the recently bolstered reality slate following Sony’s acquisition of a majority stake in 32 Flavors, the production house behind 'Vanderpump Rules.'
This leadership transition signals a strategic pivot for Sony as it looks to stabilize and streamline its unscripted output. By promoting an executive with a deep background in both business strategy and creative development—highlighted by her Emmy-winning tenure at A&E—Sony is positioning itself to maintain its competitive edge in the reality and documentary markets. As the studio continues to invest in high-stakes pop culture investigations and celebrity-driven content, Hammonds’ dual expertise in operational growth and content programming will be critical in navigating the evolving landscape of television production.
