Google Secures $920M Monthly Compute Deal with SpaceX Ahead of IPO
SpaceX has finalized a significant infrastructure agreement with Google, under which the tech giant will pay $920 million per month for access to approximately 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs and associated hardware. The contract, which spans from October 2026 through June 2029, mirrors a similar arrangement SpaceX recently established with AI startup Anthropic. This deal provides Google with essential "bridge capacity" to support the unexpectedly high demand for its Gemini Enterprise agent platform, reinforcing the company's aggressive expansion in the AI sector.
While Google is already recognized as one of the world's largest owners of AI compute, this partnership highlights the extreme pressure on major tech firms to secure hardware as the race for AI dominance intensifies. For Alphabet, the parent company of Google, this expenditure is part of a broader capital investment strategy that has already exceeded $180 billion this year. The agreement includes a flexible cancellation clause, allowing either party to terminate the contract with 90 days' notice after December 31, 2026, providing a strategic safety net for both organizations.
This deal arrives at a pivotal moment for SpaceX, occurring just one week before its highly anticipated Nasdaq IPO. With a projected valuation of $1.75 trillion, SpaceX is positioning itself as a critical infrastructure provider for the AI industry. The collaboration also underscores the deepening ties between the two companies, as Google holds a substantial equity stake in SpaceX and both firms are reportedly exploring the future of orbital data centers. This move not only bolsters SpaceX’s pre-IPO financial profile but also signals a shift toward a future where aerospace and high-performance computing are inextricably linked.
