Teixeira defeated a crowded GOP field in the race to succeed Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), who is running for attorney general in the Lone Star State. That position is being vacated by Ken Paxton (R), who is challenging incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas). A three-time MLB All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger, five-time Gold Glove Award winner and 2009 World Series champion with the New York Yankees, Teixeira retired from baseball after the 2016 season. He threw his name into the race last August — after Roy launched his bid for state Attorney General — and has closely aligned himself with President Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R). Trump endorsed Teixeira last month , calling the former first baseman a “TOTAL WINNER, on and off the field!” “In Congress, Mark will work hard to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Champion School Choice, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform . In November, Teixeira will face off against one of three Democrats : Kristin Hook, Regina Vanburg and Gary Taylor. Roy defeated Hook, a former teacher and federal worker, by roughly 25 percentage points in 2024. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the district as solidly Republican.
