Top helmers and other industry insiders gathered May 5 in West Hollywood to sip and dish at the Variety High Tea Celebrating Female Directors.
The invitation-only gathering brought together a group of production professionals who were treated to sandwiches, tea cakes and extremely scrumptious scones and brownies. The High Tea kicked off Variety’s TV Week of FYC events spotlighting the cutting-edge of creative execellence that will pace the race for Emmy statuettes this year.
The afternoon High Tea featured two conversations with directors and multihyphenates who are at the top of their game and hugely in demand for prestige TV assignments.
Janicza Bravo (FX’s “The Bear”), Lesli Linka Glatter (Apple TV’s “Imperfect Women”) and Lisa Joy (Prime Video’s “Fallout”) compared notes on the complexities of directing episodic television.
Lucia Aniello (HBO Max’s “Hacks”), Susanna Fogel (Peacock’s “Ponies”) and Christina Alexandra Voros (Paramount+’s “The Madison”) discussed the collaborative process in TV and the leadership demands that fall to directors.
The guest list included numerous Directors Guild of America members as well as friends and colleagues of the six panelists.
