International US embassy in Riyadh struck by drones by Ashleigh Fields - 03/02/26 9:02 PM ET by Ashleigh Fields - 03/02/26 9:02 PM ET Share ✕ LinkedIn LinkedIn Email Email NOW PLAYING The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was struck by multiple drones on Monday following President Trump’s attacks on Iran.  “The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was subjected to an attack by two drones according to initial estimates, resulting in a limited fire and minor material damage to the building,” Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense wrote in a post on the social platform X at 7:31 p.m. EST. One source told Fox News a third drone was allegedly en route. Strikes prompted the U.S. Mission to Saudi Arabia to issue a shelter in place notification for Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran. Officials also said they were limiting non-essential travel to any military installations in the region. In response to the attacks, President Trump told News Nation’s Kellie Meyer that he didn’t think the U.S. had “any necessity” for boots on the ground in Iran.  He added that “you’ll be finding out very soon” who’s in control of Iran.  The bombings launched by Tehran come after a weekend of strikes in Iran launched by both the U.S. and Israel.  Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed alongside his wife and other political and religious leaders in the strikes. The U.S. has hit more than 1,000 targets including ballistic missile sites, ships and submarines, anti-ship missile sites and air defense systems.  Iranian officials say the U.S. strikes have also hit an elementary school site, emergency facilities and residential areas. “Targeting patients and children is a blatant violation of all human principles, and the world must condemn it,” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in a statement on X.  “I stand with the grieving nation; the Islamic Republic of Iran neither remains silent nor submits in the face of such crimes,” he added.
