Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Sunday mourned the loss of three U.S. service members as part of what she called an “absolutely unnecessary” operation against Iran. U.S. Central Command said that as of 9:30 a.m. EST Sunday, three American service members have been killed in action, while five have been seriously wounded and “several” others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions as part of “Operation Epic Fury.” The U.S. launched the operation in tandem with Israel on Saturday, killing Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a slew of other political and military officials in the Middle Eastern nation. “My God, these poor military members and their poor families. I’m sorry for them and praying for them,” Greene wrote on the social platform X . “This was absolutely unnecessary and is unacceptable.” The former congresswoman, who resigned from the House last month after feuding with President Trump, also noted that the president, Vice President Vance and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard “campaigned on no more foreign wars and regime change.” “Now, America soldiers are dead,” Greene concluded. Last year, Greene broke with Trump on a number of issues — notably on his handling of files related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his authorizing of U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last June. That prompted the president to pull his support from his once-staunch supporter in November, with Greene announcing her impending departure from Congress a week later. On Saturday, she slammed Trump and his administration for the strikes against Iran, which came after Trump expressed dissatisfaction with how indirect talks in Geneva went between U.S. and Iranian officials, mediated by Oman. “We said ‘No More Foreign Wars, No More Regime Change!’ We said it on rally stage after rally stage, speech after speech,” Greene wrote on X . “Trump, Vance, basically the entire admin campaigned on it and promised to put America FIRST and Make America Great Again.” “My generation has been let down, abused, and used by our government our entire adult lives and our children’s generation is literally being abandoned.” Greene later wrote that Trump’s victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 convinced her it was “finally time to put America First.” But instead, she said the U.S. has once again gotten itself into another “pointless” Middle Eastern conflict — echoing Democrats on Capitol Hill , who have cited failed wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the need to focus on problems at home in criticizing the president this weekend. “Does war with Iran fix our healthcare system and make health insurance affordable for Americans?? No war with Iran does not do that and the MAGA admin and Republicans aren’t even working on it in any serious way at all,” Greene said. In announcing strikes against Iran early Saturday morning, Trump said, “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties.” “That often happens in war, but we’re doing this not for now,” the president noted. “We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.” Later in the morning, Greene reposted a video of Lord Farquaad, the coldhearted villain of “Shrek,” telling competitors in a tournament that “some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.” Add as preferred source on Google Tags Ali Khamenei Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Donald Trump Jeffrey Epstein Kamala Harris Marjorie Taylor Greene Tulsi Gabbard Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media Inc.
